Old Boyd Photos

Below are some pictures of my dad which were given to me a year ago (or so). These pictures aren't of the same quality as the ones of my mom but I still enjoy looking at them. Thanks to my dad for providing the necessary info for all of these.

My mother and father (center) at a dance, circa 1953. Girl to left is Janice Stiff. Boy to right is Tom Davis.

Brothers Harry and Don Boyd, in front yard of 506 N. Granger St., looking west. Circa 1943.

Arthur Boyd, my grandfather. Photo probably taken prior to moving to Harrisburg. Never owned an automobile. Killed November 1938 in Blue Bird coal mine accident.

I suppose the above is one of my most favorite photos on this page. I'm not sure what impression I had of my dad's father (both of my grandfather's were dead before I was born) but I suppose I figured a coal miner would be somewhat "rough and gruff" but this photo depicts a much different person. Who knows, could have been on the cover of GQ!

My grandmother, Martha Lena Bramlet Boyd Shoemaker. Did not graduate from high school but became one the first X-ray technicians in Harrisburg. Died in December 1967.

Harry Boyd, my father, circa 1946. Photo taken at 506 N. Granger, Harrisburg, IL

My dad's only childhood birthday party. From top left, going clockwise - S.D. Golden (still living); Don Upchurch, retired from Navy (lives out East); Ron Bean, teaching school in Iowa; Dick Gaskins; Tom Golden (died about 5 years ago); Dan Brown (died about 5 years ago); my father, the birthday boy!; Ron Riegel, retired school superintendent, Belleville, IL.; John Shepherd, opthamologist, living in Las Vegas; Tom Cole (died 5-7 years ago); Bill Braddock, only one of group still living in Harrisburg.

This is another of my favorites. Once again, notice how "normal" my dad and his friends look. I see my own children enjoying their friends and parties and think of this picture.

  • I can't believe this! My dad is Dick Gaskins in the picture - he lived by your dad on Granger Street and we were just talking about him! We saw Dick Lockwood last year and he told us where we might find Harry, and my dad wants to look him up!!
